Mochi for schools

For teachers and heads. Mochi is a maths practice app that families use at home. There is nothing for your school to set up, buy or manage.

Nothing to set up and nothing to buy

Parents sign up, add their children and decide how Mochi is used at home. There are no school accounts, no staff logins and no pupil data for the school to hold.

Where parents want it, children in the same year group can see which classmates practised today or this week. Parents run these school groups, and joining is always optional.

What children practise

Fluency in number facts, following the maths national curriculum for England from Reception to Year 6: number bonds, counting in steps, doubles and halves, the times tables and division facts, place value and mental calculation.

  • Practice adapts to each child: tricky facts come back more often, secure ones now and then.
  • From Year 4, Check practice uses the multiplication tables check format: 25 questions, 6 seconds each.
  • Mistakes are handled gently, with the right answer shown and the fact asked again a few questions later.

How school groups work

A school group is one year group at one school, run by parents.

  1. We choose class parents

While we test Mochi, we give the class parent role to parents we know, and a class parent can name one more, which is logged.

  2. Class parents invite families

Each invite link works once and expires after 7 days. A family can also ask to join, and a class parent decides.

  3. Parents opt in each child

Joining shows nothing until a parent chooses which of their children to include. They can leave at any time, and their family disappears from the group straight away.

  4. Children see who has been practising

Members see each included child's nickname, buddy and whether they practised today or this week. The group moves up a year with the children each September.

  • Children cannot message each other. There is no free text between families, and no pictures or links.
  • Other families never see a child's scores, levels or stars. We never ask for a child's surname or photo.
  • Any parent can report a family. The family is hidden from the group at once, and we review every report within 48 hours.
  • Class parents see who has joined and, like every member, whether a child practised today or this week, never scores, levels or stars. Their invites, approvals and removals are kept in an audit log.
  • Family data is stored in London, locked with row-level security so one family can never read another's, which automated tests check. Our emails go out through a service in Ireland, and pages reach you through a worldwide network.
  • No adverts and no advertising trackers. We never sell data or share it for marketing.

Telling parents

Mochi is invite-only while we test it with a small group of families, so there is nothing to hand out yet.

If parents ask, it helps to say that Mochi is a family app that parents set up at home, separate from school, and that school groups are run by parents and always optional.
